Shanna is a results‑driven Human Resources Executive with extensive leadership experience across higher education, K–12 education, and mission‑driven nonprofits, known for aligning workforce strategy with institutional priorities to strengthen culture, advance talent development, and improve organizational effectiveness. As the inaugural Vice President for People, Belonging & Culture at the Maryland Institute College of Art, she guided workforce strategy through post‑COVID enrollment and financial challenges, negotiated with newly formed unions, and led a workforce realignment that reduced $4–5 million in operating costs while supporting leadership transitions. Her prior roles include transforming HR operations at Bates College, leading comprehensive HR functions at Phillips Exeter Academy, and overseeing multi‑campus HR operations at Johns Hopkins SAIS, where she enhanced organizational capacity, diversity, and staff engagement. Earlier positions at the Academy for Educational Development, Dartmouth College, and Harvard University further shaped her broad expertise. She has served as a SHRM subject matter expert; and has held leadership roles with CUPA‑HR and community organizations. A Howard University graduate, she has completed leadership studies at Harvard University and Harvard Business School and pursued graduate coursework at The George Washington University.
